For example, going to church. We know of a few family groups that the parents have let their church attendance slide and now their children are failing to make church attendance a priority and now their children are moving further and further away from God because their relationships are not strengthened and supported by believers.Pamelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02770898936799604859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418046117954001497.post-26548780162596033252009-08-12T16:23:12.741-05:002009-08-12T16:23:12.741-05:00"what parents tolerate in moderation their ch..."what parents tolerate in moderation their children many times will excuse in excess"
"strictly forbidding something often has the same effect"

I agree with both statements! I generally think that it's never a good idea to strictly forbid anything (except illegal activity). I think presenting the information to them, explaining why we have decided what we have decided, and that they will have to decide for themselves when they are of age - I think that will be more effective.

And I totally agree with the cost argument too :)Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12045517118866436340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418046117954001497.post-14523639893222897652009-08-12T10:46:18.833-05:002009-08-12T10:46:18.833-05:00Great thoughts! I haven't listened to that other lesson, but it does sound like it has a lot of good information too!Nancy M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00890420576437109817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418046117954001497.post-74451112852881078952009-08-12T07:46:10.256-05:002009-08-12T07:46:10.256-05:00Thanks for expanding on the alcoholism lesson! I ...Thanks for expanding on the alcoholism lesson! I listened to that one, too. I think you both had some great thoughts on that.

"...what parents tolerate in moderation their children many times will excuse in excess." ~ this quote from Nancy I have a little trouble with. I don't necessarily disagree, but strictly forbidding something often has the same effect. I guess as parents, in most areas, it's our responsibility to determine which method of teaching our children will best respond to. I've got one kid who'd probably avoid it like the plague if we forbade it, and one whom I think would more likely specifically consume too much for the same reason!

My question is always, "If I don't like alcohol any better than iced tea or even milk, why the heck would I pay that much for a drink??!!"

Thanks for sharing your thoughts again this week, Tammy.tammihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03803890115567631062noreply@blogger.com
