Book Review: The Shadow of Your Smile by Susan May Warren

About the Book: A beautiful blanket of snow may cover the quaint town of Deep Haven each winter, but it can’t quite hide the wreckage of Noelle and Eli Hueston’s marriage.

After twenty-five years, they’re contemplating divorce . . . just as soon as their youngest son graduates from high school. But then an accident erases part of Noelle's memory. Though her other injuries are minor, she doesn’t remember Eli, their children, or the tragedy that has ripped their family apart. What’s more, Noelle is shocked that her life has turned out nothing like she dreamed it would. As she tries to regain her memory and slowly steps into her role as a wife and mother, Eli helps her readjust to daily life with sometimes-hilarious, sometimes-heartwarming results. But can she fall in love again with a man she can’t remember?

Will their secrets destroy them . . . or has erasing the past given them a chance for a future? Read the story behind the story here.

My Thoughts: Susan May Warren is one of my favourite authors and this book hit the mark once again.

One thing I love about her writing is that her characters are not only complex and well-developed, they are also flawed, which makes them very relatable.   This, in turn, draws you emotionally into the story and you actually feel invested into their choices as you watch the story unfold.

For some reason I've always loved storylines that include amnesia as a result of an injury - but this was the best of the ones I've read by far!  Warren is simply a great writer.

This book tackles some pretty heavy topics and serious issues, but approaches them in just the right way.  Fantastic book - I highly recommend it, along with any of her other work!

Thank you to NetGalley/Tyndale House and Stephanie and Amy from Litfuse Publicity for organizing this tour and providing me with my complimentary e-book review copy.

I, too, like stories that involve and envelop you in the outcome of what is coming next. This could be someone you know in search of answers. I have not read any of the books in this series and wondered if these families had been mentioned in previous stories about the town. Thank you for being part of this blog tour for The Shadow of Your Smile.
