Homemade Microwave Popcorn

My friend Sandy posted a very delicious sounding recipe on Facebook today - homemade microwave popcorn!

I haven't tried it yet, but it certainly promises to be amazing. The kids often have microwave popcorn as nightsnack when babysitters are over, but this is easy enough for me to teach the kids how to do it. Super cheap and definitely healthier than the bought variety. Thanks Sandy!!

Homemade Microwave Popcorn
1/4 to 1/3 cup popcorn kernels (unpopped, obviously)
1 - 2 tbsp oil
paper lunch bag
spices or flavourings to taste

Put popcorn kernels and oil in the paper lunch bag. Fold the open end of the bag 2 or 3 times and tape shut (or secure with tooth pick). Microwave for approximately 3 mins (popcorn setting on microwave would likely work). Open, season to taste and enjoy! You could also experiment with different types of oil - canola oil, coconut oil, olive oil. Hmmmmmm. The possibilities are endless!!

Make your own reusable swiffer cover

I saw this on a blog somewhere and I forgot where I originally saw it, so I googled it today and from the Clever Homemaking blog I found the following recommended free pattern for a Ballband Dishcloth Reusable Swiffer Cover by Skull Charms. I definitely plan to try making one of these! I haven't knitted in a long time so I'm going to have to google some refresher pointers I'm sure.

For those that don't knit but do crochet, you're in luck! I also found a free crochet pattern by Tawnie's Knits and you can find it here. I'll probably try this one first as it looks easier.

So, get your knitting on and go green!

And by green I mean both environmentally friendly AND cheaper!

Baby Freebie!

Just found out about a freebie that I thought I'd pass along. If you call Johnson & Johnson at 1-866-565-2229 and request their New Parent Package they will send it to you free of charge as long as you have a valid street address (no PO Boxes). The sample pack includes stuff like moisturizer, face wash, baby lotion, nursing pads, etc. I just "ordered" mine today, they said I should get it in 7 - 10 days. Just thought I'd pass it on...
