Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody!

I don't normally make New Year's resolutions, but this one I've been wanting to do for a long time and I think if I make it public it will make me more accountable.

I want to read through the Bible in one year.

I have never actually done this. As a matter of fact, I cannot say with any certainty that I have ever read through the entire Bible. Rather embarrassing to admit actually. So, I am committing to doing this.

There are several different read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year programs out there and I have decided to do this one. I like it because you read something from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs every day! They also have a neat feature where you can enter your own start date - which means there's no reason to wait till 2010!

I have a few other goals as well - like finishing off that baby weight loss, getting more organized (Flylady is helping with that), being on the computer less and improving in my role as a mother to my wonderful four children and as a wife to my amazing husband.

I want to be more pro-active and less re-active in my parenting.

I want to be even more intentional about teaching them what a relationship with Jesus is all about.

I want to allow myself to be the fun parent sometimes too - I need to realize that playing with my kids counts as getting stuff done!

So, what are your New Year's resolutions?

Sounds like you and I have the same goals! I like how you said that doing stuff with your kids IS getting things done!! I really need to remind myself of that more often, too. They ARE my to-do list!!

Good for you, planning to read through your Bible this year. I decided last year to give myself two years and now I'm half-way through. There are DEFINITELY passages ~ and even, embarrassingly, whole books ~ I know I've never read. It's funny; you think you're pretty familiar with the Bible, having read bits and pieces of it all your life, but when you REALLY get into it, you realize exactly how much you've never even seen before. It's pretty humbling.

Best wishes for this New Year as you pursue these goals ~ here's to our mutual success!

The sad part is - I'm a really fast reader and I read all the time, so how come I haven't taken the time to read the only Book that really matters? Definitely humbling.

Thanks for the encouragement. Great minds think alike!

I checked out the plan you have linked and it looks really good. I was looking for books to guide me through but this plan looks really good with mixing it up a bit and i like the idea of Psalmss and Proverb every day. I'll join you this year and maybe we can keep each other accountable.

Great goals!
Reading the entire Bible is so cool. I did it the ol' boring way, started at Genesis and finished at Revelations LOL.

Lorne read the bible in a year :o) I honestly can say that I don't think I've read the whole bible either so don't feel bad. I was reading daily for quite some time until Lorne got all his Christmas time off. When he goes back to work I'll have to get back into reading and my normal routine. I was really enjoying it! I find it easier to read a novel which makes me feel bad. Lorne's the same way. Pretty sad hey?

I don't have New Year's resolutions. I've never done the whole resolution thing.

it's nice to reflect over the past year and make goals for ourselves and for our family. I think it helps me put my life into perspective, where I am spending my time poorly and wisely? I completely agree with you about taking the time for our kids. I often talk to older ladies and they remind me to channel my energy on them and give them a healthy start with God and life...because that is what really matters!
