The flu. Get the facts, Max!

With all the fuss over the Swine Flu, pardon me - the H1N1, it may be time to look at the facts before we freak out too much.

According to the Center for Disease Control ....
Each flu season is unique, but it is estimated that, on average, approximately 5% to 20% of U.S. residents get the flu, and more than 200,000 persons are hospitalized for flu-related complications each year. About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu.

According to the World Health Organization so far H1N1 has caused 3 deaths in the US, 48 in Mexico and 1 in Canada.

So where's the pandemic?

Exactly! The panic is pointless.

EXACTLY. If a few hundred people die of the generic flu each year, why is one or two from one specific strain worth all the hype? You know, every time this kind of thing happens, I hate the media more and more.

ah, you hit the nail on the head! Although I AM glad that the school finally succeeded in teaching my son to cough into his elbow instead of his hand! It's amazing what a little hype can do!

I agree! It's WAY over-done.
